The Invisible Account

Every human being has two accounts.

The first one is familiar to all of us — a bank account.

Money is deposited into it.

Money is withdrawn from it.

People can transfer money into our account, and we can transfer money to others. The balance grows when we receive money and decreases when we spend it.

Most of us spend a large part of our lives worrying about this account.

We check its balance.

We plan for its growth.

We celebrate when it increases and worry when it decreases.

But there is another account that every human being possesses.

An account that cannot be opened in any bank.

An account that has no passbook, no cheque book, no ATM card, and no online banking facility.

Yet it is the most valuable account we will ever own.

I call it The Invisible Account.

Unlike a bank account, this account cannot be seen.

But its balance grows every day through our thoughts, words, and actions.

Every act of kindness is a deposit.

Every sincere prayer is a deposit.

Every blessing given from the heart is a deposit.

Every helping hand extended to someone in need is a deposit.

Every word of encouragement offered to a discouraged person is a deposit.

And every time we forgive someone, another deposit is made.

The most beautiful feature of The Invisible Account is that it follows a rule completely opposite to the rules of a bank account.

In a bank account, when you give something away, your balance decreases.

In The Invisible Account, when you give, your balance increases.

Suppose you pray for someone who is going through a difficult time.

Your prayer reaches them.

But at the same time, your own account receives a credit.

Suppose you bless a young couple starting their new life together.

Your blessing enriches their account.

Yet your own account grows as well.

Suppose you wish success for a friend, health for a relative, peace for a neighbour, or happiness for a stranger.

Nothing leaves your account.

Instead, both accounts become richer.

It is perhaps the only account in existence where giving never makes you poorer.

A blessing costs nothing.

A prayer costs nothing.

A smile costs nothing.

A kind word costs nothing.

Yet these are among the most valuable gifts one human being can offer another.

Sadly, many of us spend our entire lives trying to increase the balance in one account while neglecting the other.

We work hard to build financial wealth.

But we sometimes forget to build spiritual wealth, emotional wealth, and human goodwill.

The balance in our bank account may help us live comfortably.

But the balance in The Invisible Account helps us live meaningfully.

At the end of life, the money in our bank account remains behind.

The houses remain.

The investments remain.

The possessions remain.

What stays with us are the blessings we received, the prayers we offered, the lives we touched, and the goodness we shared.

That is the true balance sheet of a life well lived.

So today, make a few deposits.

Pray for someone.

Bless someone.

Encourage someone.

Help someone.

Wish someone well.

Share a kind word.

Offer gratitude.

Forgive an old hurt.

And never hesitate to receive the blessings of others.

Because unlike money, blessings multiply when shared.

May your bank account be sufficient for your needs.

But more importantly, may your Invisible Account overflow with kindness, compassion, prayers, gratitude, and love.

For that is the only wealth that grows when it is freely given away.
